SLUM DOG MILLIONAIRE

A R Rehman has always been considered as
India’s finest but the man is finally being recognised worldwide and
what better than two Oscars to salute the genius.
Musicians
from Bombay and down south pay their tribute to Rahman!
Yesudas, singer
I wish R K Sekhar was alive to see this historic and glorious moment of
his son winning an Oscar. I have sung a lot of Malayalam songs under the
baton of Sekhar, and was also privileged to sing under his son Rahman. I
think Rahman is going to be a role model for the youth of this country
as he has proved that hard work and determination are the factors that
help one to succeed.
Sujatha, singer
Since morning I was waiting for this moment. I cried in relief and joy.
I was moved by his acceptance speech and touched when he said that
without his mother's blessings, he would not have reached here.
Shankar Mahadevan, singer
I think that if there is anybody in film music from India, it is A R
Rahman who deserves it and much more. He is an ideal combination of a
wonderful music composer and a tech wiz and a lovely human being. He has
the grace of the almighty with him always and best wishes of all of us.
God bless A R.
Kunal Ganjawala, singer
I always knew Rahman sir will bag the Oscar. I knew it since the time he
was nominated. I could not watch the awards live, since I was returning
back from London but I can feel immense pride. Rahman sir is a legend!
And this is just the beginning; we will have many more coming now. I
didn't want to disturb Rahman sir so have messaged him. I have also sent
a bouquet to
Gulzar
saab. Though I feel he should have personally gone to receive the award
but now let the award come to him. It's a proud moment for any Indian.
Vishal Dadlani, music director
I feel great for Rahman. I don’t know him personally but I would like to
congratulate him many more victories. I have heard the tracks of Slumdog
Millionaire and I think they are totally out of this world. He deserves
every bit of this recognition.
Mahalakshmi Iyer, singer (one of the singers of Jai Ho )
It couldn't have gone to any other person but Rahman, who deserves it.
Indian classical has always been popular in the West. We have had
legends like Zakir Hussain and Pandit Ravi Shankar among others winning
various international awards. But commercial music has never been
recognised. Now, by winning this award, Rahman has opened doors for
other forms of
Indian music.
He can bring out more than what Mahalakshmi can give. He is known as a
man of few words and I remember he once clearly told me that 'the more
you give, the more you get back' and this Oscar has just proved Rahman
right!
Singer Madhumita (Liquid Dance, Millionaire - Slumdog
Millionaire OST)
Working with
AR Rahman
has been a great experience and I feel blessed to be a part of the
Slumdog team. It's a proud moment for me to have been associated
with a movie that has won such prestigious awards. And though I've been
working with Rahman for long, this is only the second time I have sung a
track with him as a full-fledged playback
singer.
But frankly, when I sang my tracks I had no inkling that I was part of
something that would become phenomenal. The recognitions for the music
at the Globes, Baftas and Oscars will now turn the spotlight on Indian
music. This is just the beginning and I am sure there will be a lot more
collaborations that will happen with Indian musicians.
Karthik, singer
Oh, what a moment! Both for myself and Rahman sir. This also makes me
proud of being a Rahman discovery. I'm so glad for him because he truly
deserves these awards. I'm sure he'll go on to win many more Oscars just
like how he's been sweeping the Filmfare all these years.
Personally, I'm so fascinated by him; he was so composed even during the
big moment! I really wouldn't be surprised to see him sitting quietly at
one side of the studio working on his film. I had tears in my eyes when
Rahman sir won – here's wishing him many more.
Dr L Subramaniam, Violin Maestro
Several years ago, when I was in the US, I opened the newspaper to find
that Satyajit Ray had been felicitated with an Oscar for lifetime
achievement in cinema. Now, after so many years, it's fantastic to hear
that AR Rahman, Gulzar and Resul Pookutty, three Indians, have all won
awards the same year! It's a proud moment for all Indians and
particularly to the music fraternity. We have so much to rejoice for!
Benny Dayal, singer
I am over the moon about Rahman sir's victory. As an Indian, he has
achieved what was once thought impossible. It is a clear message to each
and every Indian that anything can be achieved- nothing is impossible.
The highest attainable awards are the SAG, BAFTA and the Oscars, and
Rahman sir has won all three. Seriously, can things get any better?
